Why Sim Racing

Sim racing. Sim racing has been evolving over many years and has really picked up momentum since 2020. Due to the covid lockdowns people couldn't go out to the race tracks and go kart tracks so they looked to find something else to occupy their time, which turned out to be sim racing. This led to a spike in demand for sim racing games and equipment which in turn has seen countless new sim manufacturers entering the market.

What is sim racing. Sim racing, in short, is the use of a high end gaming pc hooked up to a steering wheel, pedals, and monitor. There will be a seat for you to sit in and a software running on the pc which will simulate driving a real car.

Not all sim rigs are equal. At Just Race we have dedicated cockpits (metal frame) housing a full size racing bucket seat for you to sit in. Our rigs are equipped with direct drive force feedback steering wheels.

What is force feedback. In short, force feedback is the response you get back through the steering wheel as you make your way around the race track. You will feel the road texture, the curbs, grass and gravel. You will feel when the car becomes heavy or light when changing direction. You can feel the tyres start to slip and when the car starts to spin. All of the same sensations you would feel when driving a real car.

What is direct drive. The direct drive part essentially means that the forces you will feel coming back through the steering wheel are produced via a powerful direct drive motor inside the wheel base itself, rather than the hobby grade steering wheels that most people may have used at home which are much less powerful and use a combination of plastic gears and rubber belts to transmit the forces back through the steering wheel to your hands. Direct drive force feedback wheels especially will add a much greater sense of immersion, mainly because the level of detail being sent back to the driver is extremely accurate and precise giving you the feeling of driving a real car around a real race track.

Why choose sim racing over say go karting. Go karting can be a great experience, one that many enjoy, however, go karting is not for everyone. For starters, go karting can be dangerous. Its very easy to have an accident or get caught up in an accident. Go karting can also be very expensive and with the strict age limits imposed nowadays it can be difficult to book a session for children under a certain age. Sim racing however is extremely safe and if you can reach the pedals you can have a go. (from age 6 upwards)

Who is sim racing aimed at. Sim racing is a great fit for anyone wanting to experience the thrill of racing a high performance car around a race track. No matter your age or driving capability, everyone can try their hand at sim racing.
